Returned to California, began work at O'Connor Hospital, 34 years total, including 13 years Director of Laboratories. Retired 1993. Traveled fairly extensively, mostly Europe, including, Italy and Hungary ( my "old countries" ) Dr. Kalman has always been interested in Art and Art History, as well as drawing, even as a child, "When in grade school one of my drawings earned an honorable mention". But most of my adult life was spent by getting an education and by work and carreer, and there was little time for Art. He began painting in watercolors after retirement, and became motivated to do so by my older brother, also a retired physician, who had taken up Water Color painting. Dr.Kalman has studied with known artists though out the Bay Area and shows his work exclusively with Inspirations Gallery.
