Living in the American West, I enjoy painting the people and the land - especially Native American women and children. I strive to capture a deeper, sensative, personal side of my subjects while preserving the nostalgia of the Old West, a love that fills my soul. My great-grandmother was Native American from the Iroquois Family. Riding horseback through the desert or over the mountains...feeling the warm wind on my face or listening to the soft crunch of snow under the horses' hooves... These experiences... and riding horseback twenty miles through the pristine Bridger Wilderness in Wyoming, over the same trails as Jim Bridger and his party as they ventured into the vast unknown wilderness... evoke memories and feelings that influence my work today. I enjoy a sense of freedom, yet an attachment to this land and its people. The land and subjects are a never ending source of light, space and design that take on an excitement when playing lights against darks, warm colors against cool, soft and hard edges. New challenges are faced with each work as I strive to create, through oil painting, the sensitivity, complexity, beauty and aesthetics that invite the viewer to visually enter and enjoy each painting - that once was once a moment in time!

"Fine Art" shows the creative ability of the Biker when it comes to his/her Harley Davidson. Each motorcycle can be created so uniquely different that it can be called, one of a kind. As unique as an original oil painting. How appropriate for me to park it in front of The Inspirations Gallery, a fine art gallery in Lakeport, Northern California. Which, by the way, has the original painting! —Barbara Sullivan
