Inspirations Gallery is proud to present our newest artist, Rachel Fawkes.

Born in Glasgow, Rachel grew up on the Isle of Skye and studied design and textiles
at Edinburgh's Telford College and the Leith School of Art.
Rachel has a knack for turning the ordinary into something special. Her artworks, which
sell for $300-$500.00 start with plain baking paper but it's never evident from the finished result.
From a distance the colorful works look finely painted but on closer inspection they appear to be fabric.
The fabric has been carefully stitched and decorated.
In fact her work is paper that has been dyed and scrunched or decorated with inks, paints and glitters-then varnished.
She uses several layers of colorful paper, patterned with and stitched before the first layer is cut away
with a scalpel to reveal the different colors underneath.
"I never know what I'm going to end up with " she says. "If it works, you go " yeah" and you just have to finish it.
The technique is a result of skills acquired through studies in design, textiles and art in her native Scotland.
